Landkamer Johnson Boman

History

The origins of the Landkamer family providing funeral service to the Mankato area can be traced back to 1899. The first storefront funeral home was located at 122 Walnut Street in Mankato. “Landkamer Undertakers” is pictured with a pristine horse drawn carriage in front of the facility.

In 1925, the Landkamer Brothers built what is reputed to be the first funeral facility in the state of Minnesota built purposely as a funeral home. The Landkamer Brothers were truly pioneers in the funeral industry. Until that time, funeral homes were located in storefronts, churches or residences.
In 1956, the Landkamer family re-designed the funeral home, creating a new look, and enabling them to better serve families in the community.

The Johnson-Boman Funeral Home can be traced back to 1915, when the two families merged their firms to serve the community together. Their facility was an elegant former residence located on South Second Street, very near the Landkamer-Johnson-Boman Funeral Home location today. In 1972, the newly designed Johnson-Boman Funeral Home was constructed and opened at 825 South Front Street in Mankato.

In 1989, the three prominent funeral homes combined resources, expanded the South Front Street location, and created the Landkamer-Johnson-Boman Funeral Home, where they continue to operate today.
