LaVonne B. Turco, age 70, of Garden Grove, CA, formerly of Madelia, died on Monday, February 15, 2010 at her home in CA. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 27 at 11:00 a.m. at Landkamer-Johnson-Boman Funeral Home. Burial will be at Garden City Cemetery.
LaVonne was born on October 24, 1939 to Allen and Louise (Reitz) Knewtson. She graduated from Madelia High School in 1958 and from Mankato State University in 1962 with a degree in nursing. LaVonne was an RN in St. Paul before moving to Sioux Falls, S.D. to teach nursing. She moved to California in 1966 where she started working at Kaiser-Permanente Hospital in Bellflower, CA. She retired from nursing in 1999.
LaVonne enjoyed quilting, sewing/crocheting class, and history club. She especially loved her yard and gardening. LaVonne belonged to a Kaiser retiree group that took many trips together. LaVonne was always helping others.
She is survived by her sons, Thomas (Laura) Turco of Elizabeth, CO and Timothy (Jamie) Turco of Louisiana, MO; grandchildren: Bailey Turco, Kelcie Bentley, Rebecca, Calvin, and Clinton Griffin; great-grandson, Andy; brother, Floyd (Marilyn) of Madelia; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
