Mankato resident, Dorothy Jane Weingartz, age 89, died on Saturday, February 13, 2010 at Mankato House Health Care Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, February 18 at 10:30 a.m. at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at Landkamer-Johnson-Boman Funeral Home with a 6:45 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to VINE or the donor's choice.
Dorothy was born on October 3, 1920 to Leonard and Dora (Urban) Schinke in Minnesota Lake, MN. They moved to Mankato in 1927. Dorothy graduated from Mankato High in 1940. She was united in marriage to William “Bill” Weingartz in Mankato at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church on July 12, 1941. She was a homemaker and also worked at Kresges, Shari Candies, and Sears. Dorothy enjoyed crocheting, craft work, and especially enjoyed time with her family.
She is survived by her two sons, Paul (Bonnie) and Joseph all of Mankato; two grandchildren, Melissa (Ron) Colwill of Mountain View, Missouri and Adam (Katie) Weingartz of Good Thunder; one great-granddaughter, Abby Jo Colwill; five sisters-in-law, Loretta Sigafus, Mary DeMars, Mildred Weingartz, Mary Alice Weingartz, and Doris Just; many nieces and nephews; and all of her friends and helpers at Mankato House. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, son, Richard, infant daughter, Rose, and half brother, Herb.
